Skill: Spelling rule regarding plural endings

When a word ends with consonant + y, change y to i and add es to make it plural (more than one).

Example: Look at the word "puppy", it ends with consonant "p" + y, apply the spelling rule (change y to i and add es) = puppies

Read the words listed below.

 

baby babies
bunny bunnies
cherry cherries
city cities
fairy fairies
lady ladies
party parties
puppy puppies
sky skies
story stories

 

Just add s if the word has a vowel before the y
example: journey, journeys

 

boy boys
day days
key keys
toy toys
turkey turkeys
